A new project in Austria is causing anger because workers are building a business park on the site of a former Nazi camp.

During World War II, about 400 women were kept at the Hirtenberg camp and forced to work in a factory. Today, developers are building a supermarket and large storage buildings on this land. Officials said there were not enough old buildings left to legally protect the site, but historians and activists feel sad and angry. They believe that places with dark history should be saved, not used for shopping and business.

The company building the park offered to pay for a small memorial. Even so, many people think that building over a concentration camp forgets the victims and hides important history.

Difficult words: historian (a person who studies, researches, and writes about the past), memorial (an object, structure, or event created to remember a person or important event), victim (a person who is harmed or killed as a result of a crime, accident, or war).
