Animal sanctuaries have problems – level 1

19-04-2024 15:00

An animal sanctuary is a place where animals live. People rescue these animals. Animals are safe here.

Animal sanctuaries in the United States are having problems. Most of the 45 sanctuaries have to pay more for things like hay and grain. Prices go up a lot after the pandemic. Prices of some things double. The Catskill Sanctuary has 200 animals. It also has to pay more for things like hay and grain. Medicine is expensive, too.

At the same time, fewer people give money to animal sanctuaries. This is bad news. Animal sanctuaries need money from people. If sanctuaries close, many animals will not have food.

Difficult words: rescue (to save from a dangerous or difficult situation), hay (dried grass), double (to become twice as much or many).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

How have animal sanctuaries in the United States been impacted by the pandemic and what are the consequences of their financial struggles?
