Big Explosion in Italy – level 3

10-08-2018 07:00

Security cameras captured the moment that a tanker truck failed to stop ahead of a line of traffic and crashed into a lorry.

People say that the tanker was possibly carrying LPG (also simply called propane or butane) which is highly flammable. Fire broke out immediately after the crash and there was later a huge explosion. Two people died in the accident and up to 70 were injured – some with severe burns.

The explosion was so powerful that part of the elevated section of the motorway collapsed.

Difficult words: flammable (easily set on fire), huge (very big), severe (very great), elevate (higher above the ground).
