Boeing will not go to court – level 2

12-11-2025 07:00

A US judge stopped a criminal case against Boeing after two plane crashes killed 346 people. The government asked for the case to end, even though Boeing already broke a deal made in 2021.

The deal said Boeing had to be honest and safe to avoid punishment. The judge said the government failed to make Boeing take full responsibility for the deaths. Both crashes happened because of a problem in the planes’ control system. Boeing will now choose its own safety consultant, not an independent one.

Families of victims think this is unfair and dangerous. They believe it will be harder to make sure Boeing follows safety rules in the future.

Difficult words: punishment (something bad that happens to someone because they did something wrong), responsibility (duty to take care of something or someone), consultant (a person who gives expert advice).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What do families of victims believe will become more difficult now that Boeing will choose its own safety consultant?
