Bosnia earthquake – level 2

28-04-2022 07:00

Last week, a strong earthquake hit Bosnia, and it had magnitude of 5.7. People in neighboring Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro felt the earthquake, too.

The earthquake hit the southern part of Bosnia, and its epicenter was about 40 kilometers away from Mostar. People felt it as far away as 400 kilometers in the cities of Belgrade and Ljubinje. Scientists said that it was five kilometers deep underground. In Mostar, one woman died, and two people were injured. The earthquake also caused damage to buildings and roads.

Scientists said that earthquakes were common in the area, and they expected that smaller earthquakes would happen in the coming days.

Difficult words: magnitude (a number which shows how strong an earthquake is), epicenter (the point on the earth’s surface above an earthquake), common (something that happens often).
