Bulgaria has the euro – level 2
05-01-2026 07:00
Bulgaria starts using the euro on New Year’s Day and joins other EU countries that share one currency.
Many businesses welcome this change because it makes trade easier with foreign partners. They save money and time since they no longer change Bulgarian money into euros.
Many people feel worried about higher prices. Inflation already affects daily life, and people are afraid the euro will raise costs even more. Recent protests also created political problems, and experts say the government doesn’t explain the change clearly.
Older people and people who don’t live in cities may find the change hard. Some political groups don’t like the euro because they worry about losing Bulgarian culture. Almost half of Bulgarians don’t want the euro, even though experts say that prices will go up only for some time.
Difficult words: currency (a type of money), foreign (from another country), inflation (when prices go up).
