The Chilean government announced that it will change the country’s constitution, which is a key demand from protesters all over the country. The protesters demand a better definition of human and social rights.

The protests started nearly a month ago as a reaction to the rising prices of public transit. There has been a lot of violence and crime, and at least 20 people have died.

The Chilean president, Sebastián Piñera, said that the government is working on a new constitution, but it will take some time. The new constitution will go to a public referendum and, it will take effect within two years.

Difficult words: constitution (the system of laws of a country), demand (a strong need or request), referendum (a public voting on an important political question).
