Denmark’s post will not deliver letters anymore – level 2
05-09-2025 15:00
PostNord, Denmark’s national postal service, will stop sending letters at the end of this year. Letter deliveries fall because people use online communication more.
Since 2000, the number of letters dropped by 90%. About 1,500 workers will lose jobs, and PostNord will create 700 new jobs for parcel delivery. Denmark is very digital, and many letters go through online mailboxes. Private companies, like Deo, will deliver letters, but some people may have problems using digital mail.
This trend is not only in Denmark; many countries see fewer letters every year. PostNord’s change shows how digital technology and online shopping can change old services and jobs, and it gives an example of what may happen in other countries in the future.
Difficult words: delivery (bringing letters or parcels to someone), online mailbox (a place on the internet where you get letters or messages), trend (a general change).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
How many jobs will be lost and how many new parcel-delivery roles will PostNord create when it stops sending letters?
