Dublin police clear tent city – level 2

08-05-2024 07:00

Dublin cleaned up a tent city in the city center. Migrants and refugees lived in about 200 tents near the International Protection Office.

Over time, the camp got too big and visible. It showed Ireland’s problem with migration. Officials said that removing the tents was necessary because of problems with safety and hygiene. But some people say that it was a political thing. Ireland and the UK argued about migrants, and both governments had to do something.

Some people thought moving the migrants was a good idea, but others said it was not fair. Authorities said that they moved them to help, but some people thought it was wrong. They believe that it is important to treat migrants with respect and find better ways to help them.

Difficult words: refugee (a person who left their country to get away from war or other dangerous situations), hygiene (keeping yourself and things clean), treat (to behave towards someone or to deal with something in a particular way).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What are some differing opinions on the removal of the tent city in Dublin and what do you think is the best solution for addressing the issue of migration in Ireland?
