Earth Hour 2022 – level 2

31-03-2022 15:00

In 2007, the Earth Hour movement started in Sydney, Australia. Its idea was to get people together and to make something good for our planet.

Earth Hour quickly became very popular, and today, hundreds of millions of people participate from over 190 countries. On one specific day at 8.30 PM, people turn off lights, or they use solar power instead. This lasts one hour, and people believe that it saves a lot of electricity. Critics say that this event saves little electricity.

This year’s Earth Hour took place on March 26. Many big cities joined, and they turned off the lights on many famous buildings, for example, the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building, and the Sydney Opera House.

Difficult words: movement (a group of people who work together to change politics, society, and so on), solar (from the sun), critic (a person who speaks about the mistakes or faults of something).
