Eighty years since the Nuremberg Trials – level 1
21-11-2025 07:00
The Nuremberg Trials begin 80 years ago, after World War II ends. The court judges some Nazi leaders for their very bad acts. Hermann Göring is one important Nazi leader.
Many people speak at the trial and show what the Nazis do. The court says that 12 leaders must die, seven leaders go to prison, and three leaders are free. This trial is very important. It says that people, not just the country, must go to court for bad things. This trial helps start the International Criminal Court (ICC). Now, the ICC has arrest orders for leaders in Hamas and for Israeli officials. This includes Benjamin Netanyahu.
The trial tells the world: people who do very bad things like genocide must always be responsible for them.
Difficult words: judge (to make an opinion about someone or something), arrest order (a document which says that you must go to and stay with the police), genocide (killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or group).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
How many leaders were sentenced to death, sent to prison, and set free at the trial?
