Germany bank robbery – level 3

05-01-2026 15:00

A large bank robbery shocked Germany after thieves stole valuables worth tens of millions of euros from a bank in a western city.

Police say the robbers drilled through a thick basement wall to reach the vault. Firefighters discovered the crime after a fire alarm rang, but they found no fire, only a hole and an empty vault.

Many customers rushed to the bank in fear and anger. Most safety boxes were opened, and people worry that their losses go beyond insurance limits. Some lost family gold and jewelry with deep personal value. Police believe the robbers used a nearby parking garage and planned the crime very carefully.

Investigators see signs of an organized crime group. Experts say inside information may help explain how the thieves avoided alarms. Police search for suspects among current or former staff and security workers. No arrests have happened, and the thieves remain free.

Difficult words: vault (a secure room for money and expensive things), insurance limit (the highest amount of money an insurance company will pay for a loss or damage), avoid (to stay away from something or do something).
