Hackers steal money – level 2

11-07-2022 07:00

A company helps stop criminal activity in the world of cryptocurrency. They said that North Korean hackers stole $100 million from California blockchain company Harmony.

The hackers are named the Lazarus Group. They stole information about usernames and passwords to get into the company. Nobody really knows who belongs in the group, but the North Korean government leads it. People believe that the stolen money supports the North Korean government.

The hackers are becoming more skilled, and they steal more money every year. Last year, they stole about $400 million in cryptocurrency, and the number is already higher this year. In 2014, the group broke into Sony’s system, and the attack cost the company $15 million.

Difficult words: cryptocurrency (digital money), hacker (a person who breaks into somebody’s technology or computer to steal something), blockchain (a system of business deals in digital money).
