Iceland at FIFA – level 3

19-06-2018 07:00

Iceland’s population is around 350,000 and it is the smallest nation ever to qualify for the FIFA World Cup.

Birkir Saevarsson, defender for the national team, told the media that it is normal in Iceland for the players to have a normal job and then go to training. The 33-year-old player works as a salt packer in a Reykjavik warehouse.

On the contrary, Saevarsson said that going to a World Cup is extraordinary and can be an encouragement for people to pursue their dreams, as it is possible for players from such a small nation to go to the World Cup.

Difficult words: extraordinary (special), encouragement (motivation, inspiration).
