India’s New Law – level 1

13-12-2019 15:00

India’s government passes a new law. It gives citizenship to certain religious minorities. They can get citizenship if they show they live in India for six years or longer. Muslims are not part of this law.

People who like the law say that it helps religious minorities. It makes it hard for people to live in India illegally.

Critics say that the law does not follow India’s government. It shows that Muslims are not important.

Other critics also say that Indian leader Narendra Modi’s government does not help the situation. Hindus and Muslims are having problems already in India.

Difficult words: citizenship (when a person from a country can be a citizen or an official member of another country), religious minority (a small group of people who follow a religion), critic (a person who does not like something and talks about it).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
