Israeli Prime Minister Charged – level 2

27-11-2019 15:00

For the first time in history, the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, faces three criminal charges including bribery and fraud. He criticized the authorities, and he said that he wants to continue to lead the country.

Netanyahu says that he did nothing wrong, and he wants more investigation. He can ask the parliament for immunity, but he has only 30 days to do that.

There is a complicated situation because Netanyahu and his political opponent did not form a successful coalition. As a result, the authorities are not working very well right now, and it can take many months to charge Netanyahu formally.

Difficult words: charge (an official statement that someone did something wrong), bribery (a situation when someone gives money to somebody else and they expect to do something for them), fraud (a situation when somebody does something bad to get money), investigation (a formal examination), immunity (a situation that protects a leader so he cannot get charged of a crime), coalition (a group, an agreement)..

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
