Paris saves energy – level 1

20-09-2022 07:00

The Eiffel Tower is in Paris, France. It is one of the most popular monuments in the world.

Millions of people visit it every year. The tower shines in the dark. It has many lights. The tower twinkles for five minutes at midnight. The lights switch off at 1 AM.

Officials want to save some energy. The tower will shine only until 11:45 PM. At this time, the last visitors leave the tower. The tower uses a lot of electricity. 4% of the electricity are for night lights.

An energy crisis is happening in the world. Electricity is very expensive. People do not know how much electricity and gas they will have.

Officials look for ways to save energy. Paris wants to lower the temperature in public buildings. For example, they are city pools, train stations, hospitals, and others.

Difficult words: monument (a building or other structure which is interesting or important, and many people visit it), twinkle (to shine strongly and then weakly), crisis (a very difficult situation).
