People from a rainforest – level 2

01-06-2023 15:00

Isolated native people emerged from the Amazon rainforest, and made contact with the outside world. Someone filmed the moment on camera.

The people wore loincloths and carried bows and arrows. They communicated with local villagers who gave them some bananas. The people took them, but they stepped back quickly. They were afraid of the strangers.

Brazilian experts said that people from the rainforest move from Peru because of deforestation.

Difficult words: native (a native person has always lived in one place), loincloth (a piece of cloth which covers your private parts), stranger (somebody who you don’t know), deforestation (act of cutting down many trees and plants).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What are the potential long-term effects of deforestation on native people living in Amazon rainforests?
