People go to see a volcano – level 1

17-07-2023 07:00

A volcano erupts in Iceland. It happens 30 kilometers away from the capital city of Reykjavik. There are a lot of earthquakes before the eruption.

The volcano is shooting out lava and bad gases. Authorities say that tourists must not go to the volcano. They say that the gases are very dangerous. They close the area so people cannot go there.  This eruption is in a valley near a mountain called Litli-Hrútur.  An Irish guide says that it is warm and nice. But the gas is too hot.

People are going to see the eruption. They know that authorities say no. But the feeling to see beautiful nature is stronger.

Difficult words: lava (hot red rock which flows like a river), valley (low area between mountains or hills), guide (a person who takes tourists to interesting places and tells them information about the places).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What challenges do the authorities have to face when tourists disobey their orders to stay away from the volcanic area?
