Robert Mugabe Resigns – level 3

24-11-2017 15:00

In Zimbabwe, thousands of people are celebrating the end of 30 years of Robert Mugabe as president. The ruling ZANU-PF party put pressure on him to resign.
The military detained Mugabe after he sacked his vice president, Emerson Mnangagwa, who was a possible replacement leader. People showed jubilation as the ruling party reinstated Mnangagwa as the new leader.

The party also sent away Mugabe’s wife, Grace, who was planning to succeed him. Since Mugabe has little power left, army chiefs are discussing his exit plan with him.

Difficult words: detain (hold in jail or in a home), sack (fire from a job), jubilation (happiness), reinstate (put back into a job), succeed (become a leader after the current leader).
