Storm in the Philippines – level 2

16-01-2019 15:00

A massive storm struck the Philippines. The storm was not strong enough to be called a typhoon, so many people were unprepared.

Seventy-one people died, 17 people are missing, and more than 40,000 people were displaced. Many people died in landslides and flooding.

This storm is not the first to hit the Philippines recently. Super Typhoon Mangkhut killed more than 80 people in September, and Typhoon Yutu killed 17 people.

Difficult words: strike (hit), displace (make leave home), flooding (big water).
