Studying Mars – level 2

06-12-2018 07:00

NASA sent a probe to Mars that travelled 480-million-kilometres over six months. Before landing, it had to slow down from its speed of 19,000 kilometres per hour. After it landed, it sent people at NASA a selfie.

The probe will be the first one to drill below the surface of the red planet. It will put sensors five metres below the ground to measure the planet’s internal heat, and a seismometer will listen for any “marsquakes”.

Difficult words: probe (an unmanned spacecraft), the red planet (a nickname for Mars because its ground is red), seismometer (a measuring device that measures earthquakes – when the ground moves).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
