Syria one year after Assad’s end – level 2

12-12-2025 15:00

A year after Assad left power, many people in Syria joined big events in Damascus to show their hope for a better future. The new leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, asked people to stay united, but some groups didn’t believe him because of his past.

In many parts of the country, life stays hard and dangerous. In the town of Daraa, many families have no money and live in broken houses. Food, water, and other things are very expensive, so many families struggle every day.

Many hospitals are closed, and some mothers look for help for hours before they find a doctor. People returned to Syria, but they get no help to live good lives.

Difficult words: hope (the feeling that good things will happen), united (joined together to work as one), struggle (to try very hard to do something difficult).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What factors contribute to the daily struggles of families in Daraa?
