Thailand and Cambodia stop fighting – level 3
31-12-2025 07:00
Thailand and Cambodia have signed a new ceasefire agreement after weeks of deadly fighting along their border.
The deal started at midday local time and orders both sides to stop military movement and stop using airspace for attacks. The war began over disputed border land and caused deaths and damage in both countries.
Only Thailand used air attacks during the conflict and hit places inside Cambodia. The agreement says that after 72 hours of calm, Thailand will return 18 Cambodian soldiers it held after earlier fights. Defense ministers from both countries signed the deal at a border checkpoint after several days of talks by military officers.
The agreement repeats earlier promises from July and October and should reduce tension. Past deals failed as fighting continued in December. Tens of soldiers and other people died, and many people left their homes. The deal also calls for no false information, respect for land mine rules, border talks, and cooperation against cross-border crime, such as online scams.
Difficult words: ceasefire (an agreement to stop fighting), disputed (not agreed on, when two sides both say something is theirs), tension (a feeling of stress or danger between people or countries).
