The brightest object in the universe – level 1

26-02-2024 15:00

Scientists find the brightest object in the universe. It is as bright as 500 trillion suns.

Scientists use a big telescope in Chile to find the object. They call it J0529-4351. There is a black hole inside. It is the fastest-growing black hole ever. At first, scientists think that it is a nearby star. The object is 12 billion light-years away from us. This makes it even more amazing. It is a special kind of object called a quasar. Quasars are very bright and they produce a lot of energy.

This discovery makes scientists wonder how big black holes form so early in the universe. There are many questions now.

Difficult words: telescope (a tool which we use to see things far away), discovery (a new thing which we find), question (when we ask something to get information).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What other types of objects can be found using telescopes like the one in Chile?
