Ukraine hits a Russian ship

Ukraine attacked a big Russian ship in Crimea, the attack happened at night.

The ship named Novocherkassk was in the port of Fedosia. It got badly damaged, and at least one person died. Russian officials confirmed the attack and said that the ship might not be able to operate anymore.

Russia and Ukraine are in a fight since 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea. Ukraine wants to stop Russia from taking more territories near the Black Sea. The country is trying to attack important Russian assets in Crimea and to reduce Russia’s power in the area.

Difficult words: operate (to work), annex (to take a territory of another country), asset (something what belongs to a person, company, and so on).
