VTubers are becoming popular in the UK – level 2

02-10-2025 07:00

Birmingham, UK, hosted Vexo, a big event for VTubers, short for Virtual YouTubers.

These are real people who use special technology to control animated characters. They perform music, play games, or chat with fans on websites like Twitch and YouTube.

At the Expo, fans could also meet their favorite VTubers in special booths. For many people, it felt like a music concert, but with a digital style. VTubers are already very popular in Japan, where thousands of people go to concerts. In the UK, they are getting more attention.

Many fans first found VTubers during the 2020 lockdown. This year’s Vexo attracted more than twice as many visitors as last year, and streaming numbers show that UK fans now watch three times more VTuber content than before.

Difficult words: animated (a character or picture which moves like a cartoon and is not real), booth (a small space or room at an event where people can meet, see, or buy things), attention (looking at or listening to something carefully).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

How much did visitor attendance at Vexo increase compared to last year, and by what factor did UK fans’ VTuber streaming numbers grow?
