Denmark schools are using books again – level 2

12-01-2026 15:00

Denmark used digital tools in schools for many years.

Children used phones, tablets, and screens every day. New studies show this harms mental health and learning. Many teens spend more than five hours a day on phones. Teachers see problems with focus and social life. Because of this, Denmark is now changing its rules.

Schools ban mobile phones during school time. Children put phones in locked boxes each morning. Paper books return to classrooms, and teachers control computer use. Clubs and sports places also ban phones. Children say they feel calmer and talk more with others.

The country also plans to make rules for social media. A new plan may stop children under fifteen from using social media. Parents and experts support this idea. Denmark wants to protect children and help them grow better.

Difficult words: mental health (how your mind and feelings are, like being happy or stressed), focus (to look at one thing, or to think about one thing for some time), ban (an official no to something).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What steps have Danish schools taken to limit students’ phone and screen use, and what effects have students experienced as a result?
