An Australian politician named Helen Haines is badly hurt. A man in a car attacks her outside her office. She loses a leg in the hospital.

The driver hits her on purpose.  A local barber helps stop the driver. Police catch him. He is 43 years old. Australian leaders are very sad and shocked.

Haines is a kind person who works hard for her area. Australian Prime Minister asks people to stop using bad and angry words in politics. Many people wish Haines to get well soon.

Difficult words: on purpose (when you do something and you plan it before), barber (a person who cuts and styles people’s hair and men’s beards), shocked (very surprised and upset).
