Albino whale in Mexico – level 1

12-10-2023 15:00

Albino skin sometimes happens in animals and in humans. People see it in mammals, birds, and reptiles. It happens because their skin does not have colour. It rarely happens in marine mammals.

In 2008, marine experts in Mexico see a young albino whale. She is part of a group of grey whales. Recently, marine experts see the same albino whale. She now has a baby with her. Her baby has normal colour.

Difficult words: albino (when skin is white), mammal (an animal that gives birth to live babies and gives its baby milk), reptile (a cold-blooded animal like a turtle or a snake), marine (ocean).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What is the rarity of albino whales in comparison to other marine mammals?
