Czechs support their president – level 2
06-02-2026 15:00
Large crowds protested in Czech cities last weekend to support President Petr Pavel. Pavel refused to approve a new environment minister after the man showed a Nazi salute online and posted Nazi pictures on social media.
The situation grew more serious when the president said a minister sent warning messages to him. Many people came to Prague, waved flags, and held signs for the president. They also supported Ukraine and criticized the government. The nominee said his actions show bad taste, not his belief, but many people didn’t believe it.
Many people say the protests also show anger about daily life problems, like high prices and politics. The president thanked people and asked for calm talks. Many people believe Pavel is a good and strong leader.
Difficult words: refuse (to say no), nominee (a person chosen for a job or position), criticize (to say what is wrong with something or someone).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
