How EU countries recycle raw materials – level 1
27-11-2025 07:00
Recycling in the EU is very slow. The rate goes up by only a little in ten years. The EU has a big goal to recycle more materials by 2030, but this is hard to reach.
The Netherlands is the best country for recycling, with a rate of nearly 33%. Belgium and Italy also do very well. Romania is the worst, with a rate of just 1.3%. Some countries, like Poland and Finland, now recycle less than before.
The EU says that recycling is important. It helps reduce the need to buy raw materials from places like China. One reason for slow progress is that there are no good laws for large types of waste like mining waste.
Difficult words: rate (how often or fast something happens), goal (something you plan to reach), mining (getting materials from the ground).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
Which type of waste is mentioned as lacking adequate laws and thus hindering recycling progress?
