Men sleep on bridge – level 1

21-10-2022 15:00

On Monday, two men climb up a bridge in Dartford, UK.

The men set up hammocks. A hammock is a hanging bed. The men sleep in the hammocks. They are 60 meters above the river. Authorities close the bridge for two days. The change is a big problem for drivers. The men belong to the group Just Stop Oil. It is a group of activists. They are not happy with the British government.

The government continues to use a lot of oil and gas. The group wants them to get energy in new ways.

The group also protests in London recently. Last week, two women throw tomato soup at a famous painting. Also, a man puts orange paint over a luxury car shop.

Difficult words: activist (a person who has a big job in protests, and he wants changes in politics), continue (to still do something), luxury (expensive and nice, but usually not necessary).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
