Nigeria Dog Festival – level 3

12-12-2023 07:00

Dog lovers in Lagos celebrated the annual Lagos Dog Carnival, challenging stereotypes about pet ownership in Nigeria, where dogs are sometimes bred for meat.

Organized by Jackie Idimogu, the festival aims to change perceptions and highlight the love and care dogs deserve. The event showcased various breeds, including American Eskimos, French Bulldogs, and Golden Retrievers, dressed in colorful outfits, contributing to the theme ‘Splash of Colors’. Pasha, a six-year-old Caucasian Shepherd mix, won the Dog of the Year title. Idimogu emphasized the educational aspect of the festival, informing attendees about proper pet care and understanding their needs.

The event fosters a sense of community among dog owners and promotes responsible pet ownership.

Difficult words: stereotype (a widely held idea of a particular type of person or thing), perception (the way something is understood or interpreted), foster (to encourage the development of).
