Posting Zero – level 3

16-01-2026 15:00

Social media feels louder than ever, filled with ads, repetitive videos, and artificial content. At the same time, many people, especially young users, post less or stop completely.

A large global study shows social media use drops by about ten percent. This trend has a name: Posting Zero. It means people still look at content, but they choose not to share their own lives online.

One reason is that social media no longer feels natural. In the past, people shared simple photos and everyday moments; however, now, feeds look perfect, commercial, and unreal. Many users feel pressure, worry about judgment, or feel guilt when they post happy pictures during wars or disasters. As a result, many prefer silence.

Another reason is the rise of bots and fake activity. Much online content now comes from machines, not people, which makes platforms feel empty and less human. Many users hope social media can return to a place where real people share small, honest moments again.

Difficult words: artificial (made by people or machines, not natural), commercial (made to sell something or make money), judgment (an opinion about someone or something).
