Scam centers – level 3

15-12-2025 15:00

Many people receive calls, messages, or emails from someone who is pretending to be a bank or a friend. These scams cost people and countries a lot of money each year.

In some countries, criminal gangs build large scam centers to trick people and make money. Some workers go there to earn money, but many are forced to work and face abuse. The gangs use smart methods, such as fake online pictures and messages, to make people give them money. Some workers escape or get help from their countries, but many can’t get away. Governments try to stop the centers, but the gangs have a lot of power and work in areas with weak control.

The scams continue because criminals can call people in different places, and the centers teach workers skills to trick people. People need to be careful with calls, messages, and online contacts. Being careful and helping victims can stop some of the harm.

Difficult words: pretend (to act like something is true when it is not), scam (a plan to take someone’s money by lying or cheating), abuse (hurting or treating someone very badly).

What factors enable criminal gangs to keep large scam centers running and trap their workers despite efforts to shut them down?
