The Grand Egyptian Museum opens – level 3

10-11-2025 15:00

The Grand Egyptian Museum has officially opened near the pyramids of Giza after 20 years of construction. It cost around one billion dollars, financed mostly through Japanese loans.

The new museum, one of the world’s largest dedicated to a single civilization, houses tens of thousands of artifacts, including all the treasures of the ancient Pharaoh Tutankhamun, shown together for the first time. Presidents, prime ministers, and royalty attended the grand opening, which featured fireworks and drone shows lighting the night sky over Cairo.

The Egyptian government hopes the museum will boost tourism and help the country’s struggling economy. Despite challenges such as the Arab Spring, the pandemic, and regional conflicts, Egypt finally celebrates a new chapter in its long history, aiming to attract millions of visitors in the coming years. Built close to the Great Pyramids, the museum symbolizes national pride and cultural heritage.

Difficult words: artifact (an old object made by humans), heritage (traditions and culture from the past).
