The Grand Egyptian Museum opens – level 2

10-11-2025 15:00

Egypt opened the Grand Egyptian Museum near the pyramids of Giza. It took 20 years to build and cost about one billion dollars, mostly paid with Japanese loans.

The museum shows many ancient objects and the full collection of Pharaoh Tutankhamun’s treasures. Leaders and guests from many countries came to the opening, which had fireworks and drones in the sky.

The government hopes the museum will help tourism and make more money for the economy. People in Cairo say it is a reason for pride and happiness. The museum is one of the biggest in the world and shows Egypt’s long history and culture.

Difficult words: loan (money that someone borrows and must pay back later), ancient (very old), treasure (very valuable things such as gold, jewels, or other expensive objects).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What source provided most of the loans covering the museum’s one billion dollar construction cost?
