The Olympic flame is in Italy – level 3
09-12-2025 07:00
The Olympic flame began its tour in Rome, Italy, where leaders and athletes met to open the event.
At a sports stadium in the city, the president of the country lit the main fire and spoke about the need for peace. The flame will travel across Italy and arrive in Milan on 5 February for the Winter Games.
The first part of the tour in Rome involved several well-known athletes who held the torch for a short distance. One runner then gave the torch to a basketball player who is ill, and the moment caused strong emotion among the crowd. After this point, other leaders of national sports groups took the torch as it moved across the city.
Later, a tennis star greeted fans in a large square before the flame went to a famous castle near the river. In the evening, another basketball player took it there. The tour will continue across the country for 63 days, and thousands of people will take part in the journey through every region before the Games begin.
Difficult words: flame (the bright, moving part of fire), torch (a long stick with fire at one end), emotion (a strong feeling).
