Too difficult English test – level 2

16-12-2025 15:00

South Korea has a very difficult college exam, and the English part causes a lot of stress.

This year, many people are angry about it. The official in charge leaves his job and says sorry for the problems. He says the questions are too hard and not okay for students.

Some questions use ideas from philosophy and video games. Students must understand long and unclear texts. Even a language professor says the exam is now too difficult. She explains that the test uses English to rank students, not to help them learn the language.

This exam is very important in the country. Many people believe it decides a student’s future. On exam day, people stay quiet, and work starts later. Experts say the exam should change, because students are scared, and it doesn’t help them speak English better.

Difficult words: college (a school where people study after high school), in charge (having control or being the leader), rank (to put in order).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Which subjects provided the source material for some exam questions, making them particularly challenging?
