Too many tourists in Norway – level 2

20-04-2026 07:00

Norway is more popular than ever, but too many tourists are creating problems.

In 2024, millions of people visited the beautiful mountains and fjords. But famous places are now very crowded, and some people have accidents because they are not prepared for the steep climbs. In cities like Bergen and Stavanger, giant cruise ships bring thousands of people every day. This makes life difficult for local people because of the noise and pollution. Some villages are so full of tourists that they feel like theme parks.

To fix this, Norway is thinking about limiting the number of visitors and making new rules for ships. Many tourists now say they prefer to visit back roads to find peace and quiet.

Difficult words: fjord (a long, narrow part of the sea between high cliffs or mountains), steep (difficult to climb), giant (very big or large).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What measures is Norway considering to address overcrowded attractions and the noise and pollution caused by giant cruise ships?
