Two men go missing in the Amazon – level 1

16-06-2022 07:00

A British journalist and Brazilian official go missing last week. Last people see the two men in a boat in the Javari area.

This area is far from any cities. Indigenous people live there. The journalist’s name is Dom Philips. He works on a book about indigenous people. Both men know the area very well.

Police say that both men get death threats recently. This happens after a bad situation with some people near a river. Police say it is about illegal fishing.

The men’s families ask officials to find the men quickly. The Amazon forest is a dangerous place. People meet in front the Brazilian Embassy in London, UK. They show that they care about the two men.

Difficult words: indigenous (people who live in a place for a very long time), death threat (a message that you will kill or hurt someone), embassy (the building where officials of another country work).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
