A car on train tracks – level 3

08-12-2025 15:00

Commuters in the Blue Mountains experienced long delays after a car crashed onto the train tracks near Blaxland, west of Sydney, early in the morning.

The incident forced authorities to suspend all train services between Springwood and Penrith. Buses were arranged to help passengers continue their journeys, but travellers still faced significant disruption during the peak morning period. The sudden change in transport plans caused confusion and frustration, especially for people who depended on the regular timetable.

Emergency teams arrived shortly after 5.45 am and found the vehicle upside down on the rails. Despite the dangerous position of the car and the early hour, the driver managed to escape without serious harm, suffering only minor injuries.

Rescuers needed to remove the vehicle safely while working near the high-voltage wires above the tracks. This required careful coordination to avoid further accidents and to restore the rail line as quickly as possible.

Difficult words: suspend (to stop something for a time), disruption (a problem that stops normal activity), high-voltage (with very strong power that can be dangerous).
