A man dies on a plane – level 3

24-05-2024 07:00

A plane traveling from London to Singapore experienced severe turbulence and was forced to an emergency landing at Bangkok Airport.

One passenger, a 73-year-old British man, likely died from a heart attack. Additionally, 30 people were injured, including seven critically. The Boeing 777 hit an air pocket in Thai airspace, which led to turbulence. Many passengers and crew members were treated at a field hospital on the tarmac. One passenger recounted the terrifying moment when the turbulence hit. He described how objects flew through the air, and some passengers were injured. The seatbelt sign had just turned on when the turbulence occurred. The man was uninjured because he had fastened his seatbelt in time.

Airline experts noted that sudden turbulence with no warning is rare but possible. The incident resulted in one death, seven critical injuries, and multiple other injuries among passengers and crew.

Difficult words: turbulence (violent and unsteady movement of air), air pocket (an area in the sky where the air is flowing differently from the way it is in the surroundings), tarmac (a material used for surfacing roads or other outdoor areas).
