Australia’s social media ban starts – level 1
12-12-2025 07:00
Australia has a new rule for children under 16. They cannot use social media. Big apps take away child accounts and stop new ones. If they do not do it, they will pay a lot of money.
The country says that the rule helps children. Many children have problems with sleep. They are angry and scared. Some doctors see more young people with strong stress. Some very young children also have trouble with using their phones.
Some people like the rule. They say that the apps care more about money than about children. The apps use ideas which keep children online for a long time. Other people do not like the rule. They say that children can still find a way how to be online. They want more safe rules and more learning.
Difficult words: rule (what you must or must not do), app (a small program on your phone or computer), stress (a strong and bad feeling in your body or mind).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What do critics of the rule want instead of banning social media for children under 16?
