Help for Sudan – level 2

23-06-2023 15:00

A conflict in Sudan between the army and paramilitary forces caused a big crisis.

Around 2.2 million people had to leave their homes already. The capital Khartoum is now a war zone. A ceasefire brought a stop to the fighting, but only for some time, and people started to steal things from shops. In the city of El Geneina, many people are trying to escape, but it is dangerous for them. They face violence and detention.

A conference took place in Geneva, Switzerland. Several countries promised to give almost 1.5 billion dollars to help Sudan. But it is unclear when the money will arrive. The situation is very bad, there are cases of violence against people from different ethnic groups.

Difficult words: paramilitary (an unofficial force), ceasefire (when people stop fighting for some time), detention (when police or soldiers force someone to stay in a place).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What measures can be taken to ensure that the promised financial aid from the international community gets to those in need in Sudan?
