Jimmy Kimmel show is back – level 3

29-09-2025 15:00

Disney announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live will return to television after being suspended for six days.

The suspension happened after comments Kimmel made about conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer created controversy. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) even threatened to suspend network licenses, which increased political tension. Disney explained it paused the show to avoid inflaming an already emotional moment in the country.

The decision sparked a wide political reaction. Many Republicans, including Donald Trump, praised the suspension, claiming Kimmel had low ratings and insulted Kirk. However, democrats and free speech advocates criticized the move, calling it censorship and an attack on freedom of expression. Some politicians, including Republicans like Ted Cruz, defended Kimmel’s right to speak publicly, even if they disagreed with him.

After days of discussion with Kimmel, Disney decided to bring the show back, while still noting his comments were insensitive. The debate reminded many Americans that free speech, although protected by law, is fragile and must be defended.

Difficult words: suspension (stopping something for a short time), controversy (a situation where people disagree or argue about something), censorship (when the government or another authority blocks or limits speech or media), fragile (easy to break or damage).
