Nepal protests – level 1

12-09-2025 07:00

Nepal has big problems now. The government stops Facebook, Instagram, and other social media. Young people feel angry because they have no jobs and no hope.

Many people go into the streets. The army and police use guns and water to stop them. Nineteen people die, and many get hurt. The protests become bigger. People burn buildings like the Parliament and the Supreme Court. They also hit ministers and leaders.

The prime minister, KP Sharma Oli, says that he cannot stay. He leaves his job. The president asks people to stay calm. Soldiers also ask people to stop fighting. But nobody knows what will happen. Some people want new young leaders. The next days are very important for Nepal.

Difficult words: government (leaders of a country), hope (a feeling that something good will happen), calm (quiet and without worry).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What buildings did protesters burn during the demonstrations?
