Nepal protests – level 2

12-09-2025 07:00

Nepal is going through a big crisis. The government banned many social media platforms, and thousands of young people took to the streets.

People are angry about corruption, no jobs, and few chances for the future. The police and army tried to stop them with violence. Nineteen protesters died, and more were hurt. This made the protests even stronger. People burned government buildings and attacked both ministers and opposition leaders.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned after the chaos. He said he wanted peace, but people don’t know what will happen next. The president and the army ask everyone to stay calm. Some young leaders may take power, such as Balendra Shah or Rabi Lamichhane. The next days will be very important for Nepal.

Difficult words: corruption (dishonest or illegal actions in government), violence (hurting somebody), chaos (a situation without order).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What events intensified the protests and ultimately led to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s resignation?
