Pig heads in Paris – level 3

22-09-2025 15:00

In Paris, nine decapitated pig heads appeared outside several mosques, sparking concern over Islamophobia and national unrest.

Prosecutors later discovered that two foreign nationals were responsible. CCTV footage and a farmer’s report confirmed that the suspects, travelling in a vehicle with a Serbian licence plate, purchased the pigs in Normandy and distributed them across Paris and its suburbs. One pig had French President Emmanuel Macron’s name written on it. The suspects then left France and crossed into Belgium using a Croatian phone number. Prosecutors opened an investigation for serving foreign interests and inciting hatred, which carry penalties of six years and one year in prison.

Authorities suspect Russia may be involved in previous similar incidents, which targeted Jewish sites and a Holocaust memorial. Recent cases involved Serbian and Bulgarian nationals, sometimes orchestrated by Russian actors, according to French security services. However, Moscow denies involvement. Such operations aim to destabilize France and inflame social tensions. France continues to investigate these incidents to protect national security.

Difficult words: decapitated (having the head cut off), licence plate (a plate attached to a vehicle that shows a combination of numbers and letters), incite (to cause or encourage).
